As a Senior BACP Accredited Counsellor I am required to evidence that I have completed 30 hours of Continuing Professional Development each year.

Experience

I have been in private practice since 2005 and also have experience of working in general practice, adoption counselling, palliative care and life threatening and life limiting illness support, where I was service manager in a BACP Accredited Service.

I have also set up a service to work with children and young people.

Accreditation

BACP Accredited counsellors/psychotherapists are not the same as registered counsellors/psychotherapists. Accreditation is a further process that is undertaken once a counsellor is experienced.

I gained my initial accreditation with BACP in 2007 and my senior accreditation in 2011.

The counselling/psychotherapy profession is in a period of change as we have entered this year into what is known as the SCoPEd Transition Period.

As part of this process I gained Senior Accreditation (SCoPEd Column C) with NCPS.

Under the SCoPEd Framework, there are three columns, A being a Registered Therapist,  B an Accredited therapist & C a Senior Accredited Therapist, column C requiring the highest level of competencies be evidenced.

You can find out more about SCoPEd on both BACP and NCPS websites.
